12.30.25 – Bathhouse

Earlier in the fall I had really cool opportunity to do an editorial illustration for COYOTE- a worker-owned media collective run by journalists in the Bar Area. My contact, Soleil Ho, is a writer who’s work I really like! The food-focused GN she co-wrote with my friend Blue Delliquanti, Meal, is an all-timer.

The article itself (“So You’ve Finally Gotten Up the Nerve To Visit a Gay Bathhouse. Now What?“) is certainly worth a read too, and [idk text here]

Anyway! Initial thumbnails:

They came out a little too somber (the initial tone was a little less upbeat), so I did a second round:

I never let any thumbnails go to waste though, so I’ll definitely use the ones I like from here for something. Probably. I am very bad about doing illustrations on my own these days!

After settling on the first one from this batch, I did a pretty breezy pencils pass while watching the newer Taskmaster Australia season- KOMIKAA saving my ass once again with their 3d model sets, lol.

This was approved pretty quickly, so I got to the best part of drawing immediately: inking!! Yippee. I set up color treatment while working on that and pulled the colors from COYOTE’s website since a lot of their other accompanying art does that. I’ve saved a no color version for the fellow b&w-only perverts, though.

And that’s about it! Funnily enough I was also penciling a locker scene for Ultraviolents at the same time, so I’ve been thinking about them a lot lately. The UV one is a little grungier, though.
